Montana River Float Trips

Float trips on the Madison, Yellowstone, Missouri and Gallatin Rivers.

We offer full day and half day float trips on the world famous Madison, Yellowstone, Missouri and Gallatin Rivers. An enjoyable and effective method of fly-fishing for a variety of reasons. You’ll experience several miles of prime blue ribbon trout water in a single day and cover sections of rivers that are inaccessible to wade fishermen. We’ll stop at the better runs for wade fishing, giving you the best of both worlds.

Montana fly fishing float trips

Our Montana fly fishing float trips are fully customizable depending on local hatches and your schedule. When you come to fly fish in Big Sky we want you on the water when the fish are feeding. So, if your schedule permits, we will tailor the trip to maximize your time on the water during the best hatches. One of our best tactics for fly fishing from a boat is to use a dry-dropper rig. Start with a large, buoyant Foam Grasshoppers or Chernobyl Ant, and drop a weighted nymph, from the hook of the large dry fly using about 3 feet of tippet to the nymph. Many days, the big attractor fly will do the job, if not, the nymph drifting below the large, attractor dry fly usually produce excellent action.

We also use a standard double nymph rig fished under a indicator producing steady action when the trout are not in the mood to feed on the surface, And when all else fails, throwing streamers ( Wooly Buggers, Sculpins, and Zonker’s) rarely fail to produce.

A perfect Fly fishing platform.

You will soon find that fishing in Montana from the bow of a drift boat is now your preferred fishing platform. Riding downstream in a safe, comfortable drift boat or raft, one or two anglers with their own personal guide have an excellent opportunity for trophy trout fishing, all the while enjoying a tremendous view of the river and surrounding landscape. This is truly a wonderful way to enjoy your fishing adventure.

Call or email us today about this wonderful way to do some fly fishing the Big Sky way.

We have fished with a lot of guides over the years all over the world, but meet one of the few real Pros in Dave with WTO! Not only did he get us on some great fish on the Madison but also insisted we take some of his gear in anticipation of an afternoon storm which proved genius. He was also great to spend a couple of days with on the river…personable, witty and just loads of fun. We won’t be fishing the area with anyone but him in the future!

The team went above and beyond to take care of our team. I took a client and some co workers out on a walk and wade and they put us on fish and made sure we had smiles! Brenden and Jack were our guides and 10/10 would request them next time we do it! Thank you again guys!!
